After spending time in the worlds largest city, you may need some time in the great outdoors. Tochigi is just north of Tokyo and only a couple hours away by train. Nikko is one of the most famous areas, home to one of the three highest waterfalls in Japan. In addition to its large natural park, it also has one of the most lavishly decorated temples in Japan situated amongst a stunning natural landscape with ancient trees. About a half hour train journey away is an onsen town called Kinugawa Onsen. Its the perfect place to stay to add a little relaxation to your trip as well as experience an onsen.
