If you're planning a trip to Tokyo over the coming year and have a soft spot for Sanrio characters, a new immersive attraction in Shinjuku could be worth adding to your itinerary. The Sanrio Characters Exhibition Hotel Floria Tokyo opens on July 15th, 2026, bringing a popular Korean-developed exhibition experience to Japan for the very first time.
Although Sanrio's beloved characters originated in Japan, Hotel Floria was conceived by Seoul-based creative company d'strict, which is known globally for its immersive digital art installations and visual storytelling. The exhibition was first introduced in South Korea and combines d'strict's innovative design approach with the charm of Sanrio's iconic characters.
Running through May 31st, 2027 at Tokyu Kabukicho Tower in Shinjuku, the experience transforms the world of Sanrio into a whimsical "dream hotel" where guests become part of the story. Visitors begin with a hotel-style check-in before receiving a room key and setting off on a journey through 11 themed spaces.
The exhibition features a striking pink lobby, a sparkling garden, an elegant ballroom, and a collection of character-themed guest rooms inspired by fan favorites including Hello Kitty, My Melody, Kuromi, Cinnamoroll, Pompompurin, Little Twin Stars, Pochacco, Hangyodon, and Keroppi. Each room reflects the personality of its featured character. My Melody's room resembles a fairytale dreamscape awash in pink, while Hello Kitty's space draws inspiration from roses and piano melodies. Kuromi's room offers a bold contrast with neon-retro styling and fantastical details.
Visitors can also experience the pink beach installation, a popular feature from the exhibition's run in South Korea. Created using real sand, it provides one of the event's most memorable photo opportunities.
Exclusive merchandise will be available on-site, including hotel-themed sticker sets, room-key-style acrylic charms, and travel-inspired souvenirs. With its blend of immersive storytelling, interactive elements, and beloved characters, Hotel Floria Tokyo looks set to become one of Tokyo's most photogenic attractions for visitors in 2026 and 2027.
