Lamb meat is a popular culinary choice in many countries around the world, and in Japan it's perhaps most commonly used in jingisukan (Genghis Khan), a hearty dish that originated in Hokkaido. It typically consists of thinly sliced lamb or mutton along with vegetables such as onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms which are grilled on a special convex-shaped skillet.
If you are a fan of all things lamb – and not just in jingisukan – the one-day Lambassador Festival in Tokyo is something to pop on your calendar. The event celebrates Australian lamb, and the meat will be served up in a variety of dishes for attendees to try. From lamb and chickpea stews to lamb-filled nikuman, and even lamb-based hot dogs, there are plenty of creative foodie options on the lineup.
