Ueno Park is a famous spot for cherry blossom viewing in Japan.
The area has about 1,200 cherry blossom trees and attracts many visitors during spring. About 400 years ago, the priest Tenkai brought cherry blossoms from Mt. Yoshino and planted them in the park, making it the most famous spot for cherry blossom viewing in Edo (the former name of Tokyo). The park is still a beloved spot for blossom viewing and was even celebrated in a haiku (short poem) by the acclaimed poet Matsuo Basho.
Typically, the Ueno Cherry Blossom Festival is held in Ueno Park from late March to early April. The actual dates of the festival depend on when the cherry blossoms bloom. During this celebratory event, you can enjoy music, parades, and picnicking, as well as the magical glow of 800 hanging lanterns at night.
交通方式
Ueno is located in the heart of Tokyo, so there are different subway lines that provide easy access to the park. It's about a three- to five-minute walk from Ueno Station.
