Selected from a private collection of over 6,000 works, the 117 pieces of the Man, God & Nature in the Ancient World: Masterpieces from the Al Thani Collection highlights the way in which people of the ancient world understood themselves, the divine and the natural world.

The exhibition, held until early February at the Toyokan Asian Gallery of the Tokyo National Museum in Ueno, stems from the personal interests of its benefactor, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani, a prince of the royal family of Qatar. The exhibition is divided into the themes of man, god and nature and offers fascinatingly artistic insights into the history of humankind's relationship with the world around them.

An avid art collector, the works in the prince's collection have been sourced from all over the world. Numerous pieces date well back to over 3,000 years ago and include ancient Egyptian, Mesopotamian and Central American statues, figurines, and jewellery.

Please refer to the official website for further details on opening times and admission.
