The Atami Marine Fireworks Festival originally started in 1952 as a celebration of the area's reconstruction efforts after Typhoon Kitty in 1949 and a devastating fire in 1950. The event has now become synonymous with the Atami area, and is held throughout the year.
The Atami Marine Fireworks Festival is held multiple times throughout the year. The 2026 dates are:

- August: 5 (Wednesday), 9 (Sunday), 18 (Tuesday), & 24 (Monday)
- September: 13 (Sunday)
- October: 12 (Monday, holiday) & 25 (Sunday)

Opening hours: 8:20pm to 8:40pm (8:15pm to 8:40pm for July and August).
Part of what makes this event so celebrated is the prime location it boasts for setting off fireworks. Situated right on the water, the venue is surrounded by mountains on the other three sides which serves as a form of insulation for the sounds.
