Tea lovers have a very good reason to make their way to Tokorozawa this autumn, with the Kissako TOKOROZAWA TEA FES bringing together tea producers and specialty shops for one of Eastern Japan’s largest tea events.
Held at Tokorozawa Sakura Town, in an area known for producing Sayama tea, the festival is a chance to explore tea from Japan and around the world all in one place. The tasting rally features everything from Japanese green tea, hojicha and matcha to Japanese black tea, Chinese tea, Taiwanese oolong and Indian teas.
More than simply a chance to drink tea, the event also gives visitors the opportunity to chat directly with producers and specialty tea shops, discover new varieties, and pick up tea leaves, teaware, sweets and other tea-related goodies.
There will also be seminars, workshops and tea demonstrations, including sessions covering brewing techniques and the world of Japanese and black tea.
Entry to the festival is free, although you'll need a ticket to participate in the tasting rally. One-day, two-day and all-event passes are available, with a limited number also including an original novelty cup.
The festival runs across four days from late October into early November, making it a lovely autumn outing for anyone who enjoys discovering Japan one cup at a time.
