Ichijodani Asakura Family Ruins were once the castle town of the lord of Echizen (Fukui), the Asakura clan. It was attacked and burnt down by Oda Nobunaga's army, then had been buried underground for 400 years until it was discovered in 1968. The excavation is still under progress. When you get there, all you can see is idyllic green fields and mountains, and you'd feel as though you are in one of the scenes of a movie "Last Samurai".
