Kyoto-ites have surely mastered the art of the enticing entrance way! This is especially true of older areas like Higashiyama and Gion. Exquisite combinations of wooden lattice, plants, and door curtains, mysterious corridors that lead between lit lanterns, solid steps and pathways of ancient stone, and even bowls of colorful darting fish draw the eye and fill the heart with a longing to enter!
