Takaoka Castle (高岡城, Takoaka-jō) was a Japanese castle in Takaoka, Toyama Japan. It was originally constructed in 1609, and was only used for a few years before being dismantled. The site of its ruins are now a park. The castle is designated one of Japan's Top 100 Castles by the Japanese Castle Foundation. It is protected by the central government as a National Historic Site. The Sea of Japan Takaoka Hot Pot Festival has been running for almost 40 years now, where a variety of nabe types can be sampled at the price of 500 yen per cup (crab soup is priced slightly higher at 550 yen per cup).
Toyama's Takaoka Castle has almost 2000 cherry trees dotting the park grounds, ensuring there is plenty of springtime beauty to go around. A sakura festival is held when the trees are at full bloom, which is typically early to mid April.
