Takumi no Sato is a handicraft village in the midst of rice fields and apple orchards in the foothills of the Minakami Mountains. There are more than two dozen workshops and shops selling various Japanese handicrafts. You can also watch them here how these are made to participate in a workshop.
The workshops in Takumi no Sato are within walking distance of each other. The various handicrafts that are offered in the village include the production of soba, washi paper, lacquer, indigo dye, bamboo weaving, painting or glass etching. Visitors can also help with seasonal fruit picking, as the village has an apple and strawberry orchard. The workshops typically last around an hour and cost from 500 to 1000 yen per person.

Arrive at Takumi no Sato via the Kan-etsu Kotsu Bus (platform 3) in front of Jomo-Kogen Station. It takes about 20 minutes.
