Japan's summer kakigori season is heating up, and one Osaka hotel is taking the beloved shaved ice dessert in a uniquely Japanese direction.

This summer, DoubleTree by Hilton Osaka Castle is launching a trio of extravagant shaved ice creations inspired by three of Japan's most famous samurai leaders: Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu.

Available from July through September at the hotel's Lounge & Bar SEN, the collection is aptly titled "The Three Great Warlords of the Sengoku Period." Combining Japanese history with dessert artistry, the limited-time menu offers visitors a chance to cool down while diving into one of the country's most fascinating eras.

The standout item may be the Pine Candy Collaboration HIDEYOSHI, a partnership with Osaka's iconic Pine Candy. Inspired by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the ruler most closely associated with Osaka Castle, the dessert arrives inside a hollowed-out pineapple and is crowned with shimmering gold leaf. Fresh pineapple, compote, macarons, sponge cake, mousse, ice cream, and even oversized pineapple candy slices are layered throughout, creating a dessert that's as much an attraction as it is a snack.

Representing Tokugawa Ieyasu is the luxurious Whole Melon IEYASU, made with an entire melon and decorated with purple accents inspired by the warlord's armor. Meanwhile, the bold red Mixed Juice NOBUNAGA pays tribute to Oda Nobunaga with tropical flavors of mango and passionfruit.

For travelers, the desserts offer something Japan does particularly well: blending history, local flavors, and a touch of whimsy into an experience that ends up being as photogenic as it is delicious. With views of Osaka Castle just outside the window, visitors can quite literally feast their eyes before digging in. It's a uniquely Japanese combination of storytelling, seasonal ingredients, and eye-catching presentation that transforms a simple bowl of shaved ice into a summer memory.

As an added bonus, guests visiting on August 8th (celebrated in Japan as Pine Candy Day) will receive a complimentary Pine Candy while supplies last.
