Japan Open Air Folk House Museum

Minka-en: Small traditional village-like park, Kawasaki

The park has old folk houses, which were built between the 17th century and early 20th century and were moved here from other areas in Japan. The houses were designed differently to adjust to each local area’s climate. For example, roofs in a snowy area are steep, and floors in a hot and humid area are high. The houses are arranged on Tama hill, so people can enjoy walking in nature even though it is not so far from Tokyo.

They have a soba restaurant inside, as well as a Japanese sweets (odango) shop.

I came back to Japan April, 2013 after I had lived in the U.S.A and the UK for 3 years. I enjoyed living in those countries, and at the same time, I noticed how attractive Japan is. I want to explore Japan more!
